RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Residents are generally accepted through the Examination for Specialty in Medicine (TUS) in every autumn semester as two residents. Residency period is five years. Of the 60 months of the total residency period, 48 months are spent in the department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery; 12 months are spent in various clinical and basic science rotations. Distribution of the rotations is as follows; General Surgery: 6 months (1 month emergency, 2 month burn clinic), Anesthesiology: 1 month, Neurosurgery: 1 month, Pediatric Surgery: 1 month, Otorhinolaryngology: 1 month, Orthopedics and Traumatology: 1 month, Anatomy: 1 month. Night shifts change from one in two days to one in three days in the department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. They change from one in two days to one in four days in the rotations. There is no night shift in Anatomy. The residents voluntarily take time for the surgical research during the residency period.
Although the night shifts are frequent and there is an excess work-load density, the residents gain experience and have a compact training. Most of the extremity amputations and maxillofacial fractures coming from Ankara and its periphery are treated in our department. Variety and diversity of the cases encountered create an important resource for the scientific research so that the residents can make publications before their graduation.

ACADEMIC LIFE
The post-graduation education program includes the conferences in which guest academic members and lecturers from within Ankara or from its periphery are hosted. The residency training program includes seminars prepared by the residents, morbidity-mortality meetings in which the weekly operated cases are discussed, 2-hour bedside training for which all the academic members, residents and medical students attend, article discussion hours, monthly discussion of thesis, the brunches arranged for the case of the month in which all the academic members and residents attend with their families.
Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine set the ‘Advanced Plastic Surgery Program’, which has been the first and the only post-graduate doctorate program of Turkey. The accepted plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeons are trained for Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and Hand Surgery and Microsurgery. The first uses of the endoscopy and laser in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at university level occurred in our department.
Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery is one of the exceptional academic centers in Turkey as it has more than 10.000 cleft lip-palate cases, more than 1.000 orthognatic surgery cases, more than 500 craniofacial surgery cases, more than 2.000 replantation and microsurgery cases and as it contains the whole spectrum of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery education program.
